  1. He doesn’t know how he got to Sun Valley??? Really? I do. If he didn’t drive, there was only one other option (well, besides bus, flying or walking). And are we really supposed to believe that Sonja Henie was skating on a pond there in the summer? There is only one way he saw her there, and it wasn’t on a pond.

    • The location filming of Sun Valley Serenade was difficult. Transportation of equipment to the town was long, complicated, and costly, and much of the equipment itself proved heavy and challenging to use in the snow and ice. Worst of all, terrible weather led to constant disruptions. In fact, none of Sonja Henie’s skiing or skating ended up being shot on location — it was all filmed in the controlled environs of the Fox studio lot. But even though the film had a high, $1.3 million final cost, Zanuck didn’t get too upset about the delays since he was using the location shoot as an excuse to frolic at Sun Valley with a French girlfriend.

    Lia- no

Bob, can you do some splanin?
I’m making chicken green chili enchiladas for a Super Bowl party and my mind’s clouded by onions and Adele’s music

    • Ok Lia- Splain, gone alone and with treasures means FF went into the Buffalo Bill Center of the West with donated items from his collection, with his family members, and by himself as described in the chapter Heading North in TFTW.
Splain, I was assured by Dr.Charles Preston, the curator of the Draper Museum of Natural History that Forrest Fenn’s famous fabulous bronze box is not located in any of the five museums that comprise the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. There was no mention of a vault, neither did I ask about a vault. The entire building is a vault in my opinion, I don’t see the need for a vault within a vault.
Spain, uncloud your mind, here’s a green chile chicken enchilada with no onions:

1 1/4 pounds roasted skin on New Mexico green chilies such as Hatch; or 10 Oz each roasted Anaheim and poblano chilies
      3 tablespoon olive oil
      1 tablespoon butter
6 large garlic cloves, finely chopped
      1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 3/4 cups reduced sodium or home made chicken broth, divided
10 corn tortillas (6-8 in. wide)
2 cups coarsely shredded white cheddar or Montery jack, divided
2 1/2 cups shredded cooked chicken
      Sour cream

I searched the archives here at Mikes blog but I couldn’t find where I searched the Draper. It’s interesting, if you can find it it will splain everything. The title of the thread is “not at the Draper”.

Inthechaseto… I hope to get to the Center of the West at some point. One of the first things I learned about Forrest on the blogs was that he was on the Board of Directors… They changed the format the last few years so you can’t see who is on the board now but you can see Forrest and Peggy are still donors to the Museum…

Hi Spallies, the annual report was interesting reading. My thanks to whomever posted it. The Code of The West donated generously (30k) as well. In 2007 FF was on the museums McKracken Library research team. No surprise there. Why was 2007 posted here? I’m curious if someone thought it more relevant than other years.

  4. E*:
    Oh,…come on….

Hi E* because of Gold Bug and Treasure island I carry a piece of 50 ft string (nicely wound on a spool) when I search. Also believed in the past that a brown cliff with an F on it could be the “keep” and the F-fort. You would love seeing my photo which I can’t post. I’m in need of Bart2 or Brutus to scare the cob webs out of my brain. From the poem and book I have blueprint drawing on a good map with a T X, coordinates, concentric circle, double letters. But ff’s searcher/500 statements don’t add up to my ace in the hole. and then there’s another chili out spot with specific relevance to consider which falls outside my search area.

    • inthechaseto – Make sure you bring Poe’s decoded message from “The Gold-Bug” with you, then:

A good glass in the bishop’s hostel in the devil’s seat
forty-one degrees and thirteen minutes northeast and by north
main branch seventh limb east side shoot from the left eye of the death’s-head
a bee line from the tree through the shot fifty feet out.

Oh,…and bring a child with you to climb that tree. 🙂

      • E*

I just got it as I was typing this – hummmmmmmm ,,,,,,,

geeeez in a word, it took me so long. I am to bring a child? Oh yes, they can climb – but not a pine tree or an Aspen which would not be good. E* do you have a dog? I think I’m going to take my dog. He will chase all those wild critters away and keep me safe. He’s a good Boarder Collie – ya know, they were just declared the smartest dog in the world. He knows Spanish and I don’t know how many English words – but over a hundred. When hubby and I are talking he understands everything. So we can’t say the name “Lake” or he runs to the door = wanting to go. We can’t say “frizbee” or he starts jumping up and down. Yep, he will be goin with me.

  5. Well this chapter has a blaze in the title- the sun. I don’t think Sonja Henie was skating on any ponds in early summer of 1950. But she was in the movie “Sun Valley Serenade” 1941

More twins, I’m thinking now it’s just part of his writing style-
    Page 54….”friends fast”. ff
    “Supervising something” ss
    Page 57…..”distinct disadvantage” dd

Notice the drawing pg 56 the mirror image of beds, lamp, nightstand and glasses or candles? On nightstand.

Photo on pg 55 looks like Donnie and FF were added, to support the story. They are not centered and their feet are cut off.

        • Bob – Have you ever looked into Poe’s “The Gold Bug”? Hiding a treasure is involved. Who knows what other treasure hiders inspired Forrest in his choice of spots for the Bronze Chest?

And I have explored how Acrostic poems may be involved. Did you know that Poe wrote one of those? His subject has a really nice “E” name:

          ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/p/poe/edgar_allan/p74p/poem18.html

And when Sonja ice skated on a pond,…could she see her reflection in the ice? And if I stand next to the shore of a pond in a creek,…can I see the reflection of the Bronze Chest above and behind me? “Look quickly down”…..

            (Quote)

          • I also have read many different treasure stories and seen elements in them that I believed Forrest may have been influenced by. I think thats part of his genuis, why it makes this so difficult. His stories and poem give so many possibilities that its difficult to narrow it down to the solution. Smart man!

              (Quote)

          • E- I’ve ice skated on ponds and creeks and no I could not see my reflection in the ice. So how could Sonja ?
Furthermore, if you stand on the edge of an unfrozen pond or creek you cannot see above and behind you. The reflections are of the scenery above and in front of you.

I’m thinking you might need a break too E, like the rest of em. You’ve been at this awfully hard for a while now. Relax, take a deep breath, and when you exhale try to imagine all those silly thoughts escaping into the air, never to return…. Air in….air out….that’s it. Peace.
            (Lol)

          • Bob – Thanks for your insights. I put the Grizz on it,…and he said he would get back to me on the frozen reflection and mirror images vs. angles in the pond stuff:

          • E- your evidence is overwhelming, more than I can bear. I concede, you are right, I’m wrong, look quickly down is for the birds.

Now if you will allow me….I’m breathing in, and out. In…and out. That’s better.

      • E- I’m sure you already know that the point I’m trying to make here by highlighting the twin letters, initials, mirror images, and so forth is bring us to BB. Buffalo Bill. In TTOTC FF shot meadowlarks to feed his family with a BB gun. Similarly, BB shot meadowcows (bison) to feed the army.

        Stay tuned!

I think I remember FF saying that double letters were important too. As for twins – yep I think there are twins.

I do indeedy think double letters are important and so glad you finally got a clue.

          • Inthechaseto- yes, double letters, seems I remember a comment about that directed towards a person that used the name JJ a long time ago on Dals blog.

I would love to visit there too. Forrest and Peggy have been very generous. Nancy Draper was a very special lady – In particular her travels to Africa have intrigued me.
